Healthcare Worker (HCW) COVID-19 Study

Inclusion Criteria

  • Adult Michigan Medicine Health Care Workers (HCWs) age 18 years and older
  • HCWs who are involved in direct (in-person) face-to-face patient care or HCWs who are not involved in direct (in-person) face-to-face patient care but work on units where COVID-19 patients are/will likely be treated
  • Possession of a smartphone (Android, iOS)
  • Ability to understand and demonstrate willingness to remotely sign a written informed consent

Study Summary

  • Study duration is 30 days. You will wear 2 non-invasive devices (info about Fitbit and TempTraq patches below) and see real-time data on your smartphone
  • You will answer 2 surveys as well as daily COVID-19 screening questions on the smartphone through the Roadmap 2.0 app (info below)
  • You will collect nasal swabs and saliva samples at home (up to daily during the study period) using a simple collection kit the study team provides
  • You may choose if you want to provide research blood samples for this study (up to 3 collections)

    Blood draws will occur after the University of Michigan Office of Research has deemed it safe and appropriate to resume research blood draws.

  • At the end of the 30-day study period, there will be a final interview over the phone and you can keep your Fitbit device
  • We will contact you at designated time points after the 30-day study period (e.g., 3-months, 6-months, 9-months, 12-months) to follow up on COVID and general health-related questions

Roadmap 2.0 App

  • Positive Activities: 8 positive activities to be used as much or as little as participants would like
  • Daily Mood recorded under the graphs tab in the app
  • Step/Sleep: stored in the graphs tab of the app. The information is transmitted from the Fitbit App (connecting Fitbit to the app will be done in the onboarding session)
  • Surveys: Surveys will be pushed daily to the app and populate at the top of the home screen

Fitbit Charge 3 and Fitbit App

  • Fitbit Charge 3: The Fitbit Charge 3 is a smart watch capable of measuring heart rate, exercise amount, and sleep levels. The smart watch can be worn on either wrist to give accurate measurements
  • Fitbit App: Data collected from the Fitbit Watch will be stored in the Fitbit app and transmitted to display in the Roadmap 2.0 application under the graphs tab

TempTraq Temperature Patches and TempTraq App

  • TempTraq is a continuous temperature monitor in the form of a flexible, silicone-based patch that is worn under the participant’s arm. Temperature data are transmitted to TempTraq app for viewing.
